Western Culinary Institute/CEC Class Action Complaint
We’ve been getting a lot of calls about the class action case filed against WCI and CEC yesterday. So here’s a scanned copy of the complaint filed yesterday in Multnomah County Circuit Court. As well, there are other blog entries on the case earlier on.

i am another of the many students who feels this way. i’ve felt misled by the school since midway through my education & have felt incredibly dissapointed w/ the results ever since. i would NEVER recommend anyone to the school. feel free to contact me for details!

I am so glad that this issue is being looked into. My time at WCI was a string of disappointments. Class after class the quality of the education plummeted.

My son is interested in going to culinary school and we are looking at the one in Portland, Oregon or the one in Pittsburg, PA. We know nothing about these schools other then the website information and my son’s interest in either of the two cities.
Any imput that you can give would be helpful in making an informed choice.

Michael-sorry but because this is in litigation, I can’t really provide you with much of an answer. The claims in the case against CEC and Western Culinary are for a jury to determine.

To get to “chefdom” there is grunt work that needs to be done as with every other trade. This does not pay well and does not have any sort of glamour or glitz but it weeds out those not meant for the field.
I went to WCI because I love working with food.
I started in ‘02 was interupted to go to Iraq and finished in ‘04, I did miss the “old school” and all of it’s chef’s who went to OCI.
The administration was nice enough to hold my rates and require what I had signed on for pre-deployment and one of the teachers there went above and beyond in helping me catch back up.
In the end who signed up to go to school?
Something about a bus with an empty seat.

Bobby-
Thanks for your comment and–more important–for your service. It’s good to hear that the school helped you finish your studies when you returned.
My sense is that a lot changed after people left for OCI. I have a different perspective on the value of the program, but this isn’t really the place for debate. I hope things work out well for you.
